The “Karma Institute, Institute of transpersonal psychology for the development of consciousness” was founded in Milan on 1st July 2003 by Manuela Pompas, together with a staff of members and associates, including doctors, psychiatrists and physicists, as well as mediums and scholars specialising in other disciplines.

Part of our motivation is the desire to answer the increasingly pressing need to create a more spiritualised society and take a quantum leap of consciousness.. Consequently, we operate in the diverse spheres of mental and spiritual psychic awareness, providing the tools to allow us to grow together.

The original hypothesis from which each of us started out many years ago (which has also guided the American development of human potential programmes, such as the work of Russel Targ, for example) was the revelation that individuals utilize less than ten percent of their cerebral potential, using predominantly the left hemisphere of the brain, which is connected to rationality.. Therefore, if it is true that by changing our level of consciousness, certain faculties are activated, why not undertake a systematic approach towards developing one’s intuition, the ability for self-healing and mediumism? It is not possible, of course, to become great psychics or mediums if one is not born with the gift; however, practice helps to increase one’s psychic abilities, just as practice helps an artist or an athlete to improve. And that’s not all. Scientists have revealed that there are certain parts of the brain, known as ‘silent’, which are completely inactive, as if turned off; but as soon as we carry out mental operations connected with such areas, they activate their neurone circuits and begin to function.

Over the last twenty years, apart from humanistic and psychotherapeutic disciplines, seminars of all sorts have appeared on the Italian scene, targeting a vast audience, arriving from both the East and the West and from shamanic cultures. These seminars focus on the development of mental powers (psychodynamics, Silva Mind Control), harmonisation of chakras and the subtle body (body mirror system), self-healing and others (Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, and Pranic Healing), communicating with one’s Self, spiritual guides, and angels…

Thanks to this vast input, a general expansion of consciousness has taken place, opening the receptive channels of many people, who are beginning to get in touch with the invisible dimensions of their own souls and the subtle universe, which connects us all. If it is true, as the physicist Bohm asserts, that individual consciousness is nothing more than the holographic reproduction of universal consciousness, the more people move towards the Light, the more will be “infected” and will reawaken in spite of themselves…

If twenty years ago it was too early to launch a large-scale programme (I myself was probably not ready and in any case I was too busy with my career as a journalist), now the time has come to strive together for a more spiritualised society, to answer the needs of an increasingly numerous group of people, from the most humble to the most highly educated, who wish to make a quantum leap of consciousness.

This new association is founded on some ambitious projects: the first is to develop a programme to make a vast audience aware of the opportunity to access the programmes of their own souls!

With this in mind, we will endeavour to offer a series of approaches which, with the help of doctors, therapists and scientists who share our aims, support working towards consciousness and harmony. Thus we hope to bring spirituality into daily life and the disciplines we employ to help individuals to overcome their problems, in the same way as psychology and medicine.

Remaining within the sphere of western culture, we will endeavour to increase awareness of the disciplines that have always been studied by the initiated and enlightened and more recently by psychologists, anthropologists and scientists, who are currently investigating altered states of consciousness.

 
INITIATIVES

1. School of development of psychic potential:
A practical and theoretical course, starting with relaxation and visualisation – for those who have never had any contact with these subjects – and proceeding with more sophisticated techniques. The course will help students to understand the different levels of consciousness, to develop awareness of the subtle universe. Thus the course will proceed to telepathy, clairvoyance, mediumism and self-healing ability, in order allow students to reach a higher level of consciousness and improve the quality of their lives and relationships.

In tackling these subjects, we will endeavour to use language that takes scientific research rather than esotericism as a reference, remaining in the sphere of the more advanced disciplines, including oriental disciplines, reinterpreted in the light of new discoveries of quantum physics and neuroscience.
The course may be followed with an aim to personal growth, however in the future it may also become a professional training course for those who wish to work in the field of well-being (relaxation, disease prevention, overcoming stress, etc.) and improvement of intellectual and creative ability (part of the courses may be adapted for schools and companies).

2. Conferences
In parallel, a series of conferences are being organised (currently at the Mondadori Multicenter in Milan), conducted by experts in various disciplines. The conferences tackle issues connected with the invisible thread of evolutionary, psychic and spiritual research, such as transpersonal psychology, altered states of consciousness, psychic perception, creativity, quantum physics and all kinds of holistic medicine.

3. Training School
We are currently in the process of fine-tuning a project to bring new mind disciplines to the sphere of medical training.
Training courses will be organised to increase scientific awareness of the disciplines that make up transpersonal psychology in the USA, such as out-of-body experiences, near-death experiences and memories of past lives.
